Breaking the Silence: A Memorable Event on Gender-Based Violence in Tashkent
On December 3rd, an event addressing gender-based violence (GBV) took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as part of Project EQUAL. The event, which gathered women aged 25-60 and leading experts in the field, proved to be an enriching platform for dialogue, education, and inspiration, reinforcing the urgent need to tackle GBV and promote gender equality in society.
The half-day event was meticulously organized, earning high praise from attendees. With a lineup of expert speakers, the discussions were both thought-provoking and engaging. While the allocated speaking time of 30-40 minutes per expert felt too brief for such a pressing and multifaceted topic, the speakers made the most of their moments. Their ability to delve into sensitive issues and spark meaningful conversations was truly remarkable.
The audience, consisting predominantly of women, actively participated in interactive dialogues. Their enthusiasm and willingness to engage demonstrated the relevance and urgency of addressing gender-based violence in Uzbekistan.
One of the standout elements of the event was the screening of the powerful SPEAK! video, which left a lasting impact on attendees. Complemented by additional videos and presentations, the program created a well-rounded and compelling narrative about the realities of GBV, the societal changes needed, and how individuals and organizations can contribute to the solution.
It was heartening to see the interest shown by experts who have expressed their intent to collaborate on joint projects with NGOs like ours. This opens up exciting opportunities for partnerships that will further the goals of Project EQUAL and the broader mission of ending GBV.
Special mention goes to the Greek Center for their support in announcing the event and amplifying its reach. Their contribution, along with the collective efforts of all participants, ensured that this gathering was both impactful and memorable.
The event underscored the importance of education, dialogue, and collaboration in the fight against gender-based violence. It was a reminder that every conversation, every initiative, and every act of awareness contributes to a future free from violence and inequality.
Let us continue to build on this momentum, foster partnerships, and inspire change. Together, we can create a world where everyone is safe, respected, and empowered.
